"Rolls Royce set to launch a small car"

New Delhi, March 20, 2009: Rolls-Royce is set to launch a small car. The whole world is hit by severe recession and there is no hope that the nations will be able to tide over this difficult time any time soon.

So like everyone Rolls Royce too is thinking of something different to overcome the crisis looming most of the auto manufacturers.

Though the company is not forgetting to project its prime business. Recently Rolls Royce Motor Cars unveiled Phantom Coupe, its fourth new model in the Phantom brand line-up, in India.

The Phantom Coupe is the most driver-oriented model in the current line-up. It completes the Phantom family, adding to Phantom, Phantom Extended Wheelbase and Phantom Drophead Coupe, Rolls Royce Motors Cars’ General Manager (South and East Asia Pacific) Matthew Bennett told reporters here.

But to think that the small Rolls Royce would like anything like Nano or Chevrolet Spark would be a great mistake. The car would still be bigger than most of the cars seen on Indian roads.

A Rolls Royce official says, Though it is a comparatively small car, it will be positioned above the BMW 7 Series and below the Phantom 4-door sedan.

The RR4 will keep some illustrious company in Rolls-Royce showrooms such as the Phantom Standard Wheelbase, Phantom Extended Wheelbase, Phantom Drophead Coupe and Phantom Coupe.

Rolls Royce is upbeat about its chances in Indian market. A company official says, “The numbers here are small when compared to Europe and US, but this remains a very important market for us. Growth of high net worth individuals who can afford our cars is high in India. Our numbers grew in 2008 and sold 14 cars. This year, we would be happy if we are able to achieve the same number.

While talking of customer profile the official says, It is a mix of all kinds really and you cannot generalise any which way. Our first customer in India, for example, was a young 30 plus biochemical expert from the South while one customer from Pune is a 65-year old....
