The new government appointed board has a very limited and short term responsibility -and that is to see how soon some one can take over the reins and relieve them of this onerous and thankless job.
The wrongest thing to do is to hand over the company to the variosu names like Vivek Paul, Jerry Rao, etc... or even L&T.
L&T have miserably failed in their own IT venture. In fact there is no manufacturing group who have succeeded in IT business. The main problem they have is how to manage the huge salary differential between junior engineers in the IT LOB and that of senior engineers in other LOBs. Disaster indeed.
And the likes of Jerry Rao - the lesser said about his frolics in MPhasis - the better. He is lucky that it did nto become famous like Satyam.
Satyam has been an independant company and all the senior managers have been proud of their contribution and their capabilities. If a guy like Jerry Rao is appointed head, there will be an exodus of talent.
Remember that high performance comes form an individual only because of potential and vision for personal growth. Close this fact, and you have only non-performers.
The best thing for the Board to do is to see which of the managers of Satyam can take on this role. Tis will be a tremendous motivation for them. When I mean which of the managers, I do not restrict it to the "40" top managers. Maybe it is some person at an ordinary SVP level
