"TDP accuses Centre of delaying CBI probe into Satyam scam "

New Delhi (PTI): The Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday charged the UPA government with having delayed the CBI probe into Satyam scam by a month, while casting doubts over impartiality of the investigating agency itself.

"Why they (the UPA government) delayed it for one month. Why the Prime Minister was silent for one month...All the records they destroyed," former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here. He said it is not only he who is levelling charges of destruction of records.

"I am not saying this. SEBI went to the local court. No permission was granted to inquire. It then went to high court, but permission was refused on technical ground. Ultimately, they went to the Supreme Court, saying the records were being destoryed," he said.

Expressing doubts over the impartiality of CBI, he said, "The Supereme Court has commented so many times on CBI. We are having our own reservations on CBI. The present Congress government has spoiled the reputation of CBI also. So, I demanded on the floor of the House (state assembly) inquiry by a sitting judge."
